West Newton Bridge Update!

Update as of October 9th, 2023 – received by PennDOT Project Manager District 12-0.
PennDOT received environmental clearance that will allow them to move into final design and ROW (right of way) acquisition activities. These work orders were executed on 8/09/2023 and 8/23/2023. They are finalizing the final ROW plan and will begin appraisals within the next couple months.

Color options will be sent to West Newton Borough Council once the Project Manager gets guidance from the Departments of Historic Structure.

There will be lighting on the bridge which will illuminate the sidewalk and the bridge; this will be part of the final design. No current discussion of the location of the temporary bridge was disclosed at this time.

Timeline has been updated:
– Late 2024 into 2025 will begin construction of the temporary bridge.
– Repairs to the Historic West Newton bridge will be through 2026.
