West Newton Bridge Rehab Project

Stay up to date on the Bridge Rehab Project with the following information below.

2025 Project Status:

• The project remains on schedule to begin in January 2026.
• Coordination meetings have been held with the railroad and utility companies to organize traffic flow and plan for the temporary relocation of poles and lines.
• A public meeting is planned for this summer or early fall to present and confirm details regarding the placement of the temporary bridge.

Below will show ADA compliant walkways for the bridge. PennDOT engineered this due to the steep incline from Water Street to SR136. With the help of Council members, the donor wall that is present in Simeral Square will be reinstalled within this site plan.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
For the West Newton Bridge in the Borough of West Newton, Westmoreland County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will conduct a public meeting to inform the general public of the proposed West Newton Bridge Rehabilitation Project in the Borough of West Newton, Westmoreland County, PA. The existing bridge crosses the Youghiogheny River and was originally constructed in 1909. The scope of the project tis to rehabilitate the bridge to maintain its historic significance while maintaining traffic during construction on a temporary bridge located downstream of the existing bridge.

The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public an opportunity to review and comment on the proposed project. Representatives from Penn DOT will be available to answer questions and receive comments regarding the project.

LOCATION: Simeral Square (across from the West Newton Senior Center at 103 East Main Street, Wet Newton, PA 15089)
