Time Capsule Info

1st Planning Meeting Monday December 1st 7:00pm in West Newton Borough Municipal Building.
This was a special project for our community of West Newton Borough back on July 4th 1976. A time capsule placed in the ground for 50 years to be opened July 4th 2026. The time capsule article from the town newspaper Times Sun back then stated that there are many items placed in it to give us a look back at 1976 as well as what was being planned & thought of for the future of our community.
The leadership of the Community, Local Government West Newton Borough Elected Officials, and especially the West Newton Cemetery at that time were incredibly intelligent and thoughtful to provide for this gift to the community that will become available for us to see in 2026.
In 1976, several young people including myself were honored with the privilege of being asked to serve on the committee to insure the time capsule is opened for the community to see.
We will need help from the community to help reach out to members of the committee and assist with planning a wonderful celebration for the time capsule opening.
A meeting of the committee and others that want to be involved is being planned for in the very near future.
Please direct message me if you know how to contact any of the committee or are interested in assisting the committee.
I also believe we as a community need to plan on placing another time capsule in the ground for another 50 years with an opening in 2076 when our Country celebrates 300 years of existence.
Feel free to share your thoughts, ideas and even pictures & articles from the time capsule in 1976.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!!
– Paul Williams
