No Avenue of Flags Volunteer Event

To our deeply valued volunteers and supporters:

Because we want to keep everyone as safe as possible during this COVID-19 pandemic, the Avenue of Flags will not host its regular volunteer events this year.

Tentatively, however, plans have been made with West Newton borough, West Newton VFW Post 7812 and West Newton Cemetery Association to raise at least some of the flags while practicing safe social distancing in order to honor those who served our country, and help those visiting the cemetery to remember Memorial Day.

A small group of borough and cemetery workers will handle the raising and lowering of the flags. In addition to the service branch flags and those that honor all veterans from each American conflict, about 20 flags will be chosen at random to line the path from the exit to the memorial stage.

While we will not have in-person volunteer opportunities this year, we are working on ways to stay connected, like sharing stories of those honored with flags.
